Mixing Orchestral Music

Gh0stwrit3r · October 24, 2019

With todays video we start a new chapter of the FREE masterclass Realistic Orchestral Mockups: Mixing! I will discuss my philosophy on the concept of mixing, exporting midi and importing audio and three plugins that I almost always use on my master bus: Voxengo Span, iZotope Insight and iZotope Ozone Imager. So let’s start mixing orchestral music!

Don’t forget to hit that like button if you appreciate this video. And sub to my channel to listen to my music or if you’re interested in how to write orchestral music for film, tv and games.

Mixing Orchestral Music: use less achieve more!

This is the starting video of the mixing chapter. One thing I think is important to address. To make sure that you don’t make the same mistakes as I did. Cause when I started mixing orchestral music I was focused to hear a clear result on each single track. That resulted in enormous EQ cuts and boosts per track. Enormous reverb settings on each single track. Eventually I ended up with a messy and really bad mix result.

So I’ve learned over the years that less is more. Only grab to a plugin when you think it is really necessary. If you have any doubts, don’t use a plugin! If you have a good composition and you made the right orchestration choices, your track should mix it self by 90%!
